January 26th is Australia Day, and in 1988 we celebrated our Bicentennial. Part of the festivities included a re-enactment of the tall ships entering Sydney Harbour, helicopters and war planes including Lancaster bombers and public transport was free for the day.
My family and I were fortunate that one of our relatives lived at Dover Heights at the time. Dover Heights is a suburb of eastern Sydney, with many of the suburb’s properties having views of Sydney Harbour.

The Bicentennial was a once in a lifetime opportunity. It certainly was the most memorable Australia Day I’ve ever experienced.
